“Modern Family,” which won the outstanding comedy series Emmy for a record-equaling five times, will end an 11-season run with the 2019-20 season, ABC announced Tuesday.
“Modern Family” won the outstanding comedy series Emmy for each of its first five seasons, matching the record set by NBC’s “Frasier” from 1994-98.
“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of `Modern Family’,” said co-creator and executive producer Christopher Lloyd.
Lloyd was an executive producer of “Frasier” in its second through fifth seasons and a co-executive producer its first when it won outstanding comedy series Emmys. “Modern Family’s” other co-creator, Steve Levitan, was a “Frasier” co-executive producer on its third season.
“Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history,” ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said. “In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”
ABC also announced it had renewed the dramas “A Million Little Things” for a second season and “The Good Doctor” for a third and the alternative series “Shark Tank” for its 11th.
The announcements came in connection with ABC’s portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour which is being held in Pasadena.
