A 31-year-old man was taken into custody Monday for allegedly threatening his family with a knife before barricading himself for nearly an hour inside a vehicle in Glendale.
According to Sgt. Victor Jackson of the Glendale Police Department, officers were sent to the 300 block of Harvey Drive around 10 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of an armed suspect.
Oscar Urenda of Pacoima allegedly brandished a knife at his family in a threatening manner moments before his relatives escaped to a safe location, after which Urenda barricaded himself inside a vehicle.
“The Glendale Police Department responded to the scene with their Crisis Negotiation and SWAT teams,” Jackson said in a statement. “Negotiations began. After approximately one hour, the suspect surrendered to officers and was safely taken into custody.”
Urenda was later taken to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation, police said. No injuries were reported.
