The Mr. Rogers story “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” was among the top nominees announced Wednesday for the 24th Family Film Awards, which will be presented in a virtual format in Universal City.
The movie, starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, was nominated for outstanding feature film, along with “Little Women,” Aladdin,” “The Lion King” and “Always Be My Maybe.”
It was also nominated for outstanding feature film drama, as were “Little Women,” “The Lion King” and “The Half of It.”
Presented by DYF Entertainment, the award winners are chosen by entertainment industry executives. The awards will be presented Feb. 25 in a socially distanced ceremony originating from the Universal Hilton Hotel, hosted by Dean Cain. The show will be taped to air on the REELZ channel sometime in the spring.
During the ceremony, actress Ann-Margret will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, while writer/producer Bob Gale will receive the Iconic Film Award for “Back to the Future,” and the cast of “The Brady Bunch” will receive the Iconic Television Award. Actress Michelle Yeoh (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Crazy Rich Asians”) will receive the Global Lifetime Achievement Award.
