A 10 year-old boy was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle in La Puente with his family, authorities said Monday.
The shooting was reported about 9:43 p.m. Sunday on North Hacienda Boulevard at Amar Road, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The boy was seated in the family vehicle when someone in a dark-colored sedan fired a handgun and the boy was struck in the upper body, Koerner said.
The family called 911 and met up with deputies in the 500 block of Fifth St., at Temple Avenue, in La Puente, he said.
The boy was taken to a hospital to be stabilized then moved to a trauma center, where he died, Koerner said.
Homicide detectives were conducting crime scene investigations at both locations, he said.
