An adventure-loving toddler found wandering alone on the streets of Van Nuys was safe at home with her family Wednesday after a neighbor saw news reports about the mystery child and called authorities to make an identification.
But police said even though the situation ended happily, it’s possible any adult in charge of the child could face charges as the 2 or 3-year-old girl could have been endangered.
The toddler was found about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 7200 block of Kester Avenue, near Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The officers that found her told reporters at the scene that the child was wandering near traffic with no shoes on, possibly unaccounted for for hours.
Police had put out a call for public help in locating a parent or anyone else responsible for the child.
An investigation was underway into how the girl came to be wandering the streets alone and whomever was responsible for her could face charges, according to Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im.
