A Murrieta man who sexually assaulted an 8-year-old family member pleaded guilty Friday to lewd acts on a child and other offenses and was immediately sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.

Kyle Steven Myers, 33, admitted the lewd acts count and a charge of sexual penetration of a child under 10 years old under a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Two related felonies were dismissed in exchange for Myers’ admissions.

The plea deal was announced just as the case was set for a preliminary hearing at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

Superior Court Judge John Monterosso certified the terms of the agreement and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.

Myers was arrested in March following a two-day investigation by the Murrieta Police Department.

According to Sgt. Spencer Parker, county Child Protective Services personnel were first alerted to possible illicit contact between the victim, whose name was not disclosed, and Myers on Feb. 26.

After an inquiry by CPS case agents, the matter was turned over to the police department, whose detectives conducted “forensic interviews, a medical examination” and other steps that “corroborated and substantiated several components of the investigation,” Parker said.

Myers was located and taken into custody without a struggle at a motel on Moreno Road in Temecula.

“The suspect gave a detailed confession regarding … the sexual assault,” Parker said.

The child is in the care of family members.

Myers had no documented prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County.
