A mother and her two sons, including an 11-year-old, were recovering Wednesday after being stabbed in their Costa Mesa home, possibly by a burglar they surprised in their residence.
Police said a suspect was in custody, and an officer may have sustained minor injuries in the arrest.
Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Wallace Avenue where they found the mother and her children in their home suffering from stab wounds, according to Costa Mesa Police Department Lt. Greg Scott.
All three were rushed to nearby hospitals, Scott said.
The 11-year-old was undergoing exploratory surgery to determine the extent of his injuries, Scott said.
Police did not release the age of the other son but KCAL9 reported he was 17 years old. The conditions of the victims were not immediately released.
Officers arrested a male suspect at the scene and one officer sustained a minor injury while placing the suspect under arrest, Scott said.
No other known suspects are outstanding at this time, Scott said.
Scott did not disclose why the suspect was in the victims’ home but KCAL9 reported the victims walked in on him burglarizing the residence.
