Summer education programs for aspiring junior rangers continue Sunday with a variety of games and nature walks provided for free by Mount San Jacinto State Park & Wilderness officials.

In partnership with the Natural History Association, the park will hold free class and field programs through Sept. 1, organizers announced. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the popular “Junior Ranger Days” will include “Leave No Trace” games, “Spin the Wheel” information boards, as well as animal pelt discoveries.

Led by park interpreter Allison Barnes, the child-friendly events begin at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway’s Mountain Station walkway at 11 a.m., officials said. If you can’t make the three-hour program Sunday, additional “Junior Ranger Days” are set for the weekends of June 15, Aug. 3, Aug, 15, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

There is no need for prior registration for any of these events.

The park will also host free guided nature walks led by volunteers every weekend, starting Sunday, through Sept. 1, according to tramway spokeswoman Cara Youngman. Two “easy trails” open Sunday with a mile and half hike beginning at 11 a.m., while a loop just under a mile starts at 1:30 p.m. for all visitors.

While all the programs are free to the public, regular tramway admission is required to get on site, Youngman said. Admission for adults is $25.95, $23.95 for seniors and $16.95 for children up to 10 years old.
