Friday, Sept. 9
Backstreet Boys VS. NSYNC (nightlife): Come to the battle of the 90’s boy bands and see who will take home the crown (last year Backstreet Boys won). Get your tickets here for $12. Oktoberfest Kick-Off (festival): Celebrate an Oktoberfest kick-off weekend event with The Alpine Village. There will be the 13 piece Boehmische Straßenmusikanten Oom-pah Band flown in straight from Germany, a 2016 commemorative plastic steins giveaway and of course plenty of beer. Get your tickets here for $10. The event starts at 6 p.m., 833 Torrance Blvd., Torrance.
Makeup Blowout (shopping): Dying to get your hands on some high-end makeup without the expense? Check out the Makeup Blowout Sale offering makeup, skin and hair care products at discounted prices. The event starts at 10 a.m. at Mica Beauty Cosmetics , 9350 Eton Ave. Chatsworth.
Roller Derby from AzkaBAM! (sports): Harry Potter fans won’t want to miss this. Come watch your local roller derby teams, the Hermosa Hitgirls and the Redondo Riots, play one another. You can get your tickets here for $12. The game starts at 8 p.m. Longshoreman Memorial Hall, 231 W. C Street, Wilmington.
Saturday, Sept. 10
Movies at the Lake (film): Bring a blanket, some snacks and your friends and come watch a screening of ‘Funny Girl’ at Echo Park lake. The screening is free and starts at 7:30 p.m., 751 Echo Park Ave., Los Angeles.
Cave of Munits (active): Down to explore some caves? Join ‘Hiking-with-Friends’ and hike to the Caves of Munits. The group will meet bright and early at 7:45 a.m. at CVS Pharmacy, 22968 Victory Blvd., Woodland Hills and then carpool over to the hiking trail together.
California Beer Festival (festival): The two-day California Beer festival will begin and if you’re a lover of craft beer you’ll want to be there. Saturday’s events will include samples of over 85 beers from local craft breweries to neighboring breweries that border the California Coast. Get your tickets here for $10. The event starts at 12:30 p.m., Frank G Bonelli Regional County Park, 120 Vía Verde, San Dimas.
Sunday, Sept. 11
The Walt Disney Studios: A Lot to Remember (film): Rebecca Cline, director of the Walt Disney Archives, and co-author Steven B. Clark, the founder and former head of D23, will host a Q+A and book signing. The event starts at 1 p.m., Creative Features, 2904 W Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.
Annual Car Show (festival): Come check out over 500 vehicles including some of the first automobiles ever made! There will also be classic roadsters, coupes, sedans, convertibles, muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods and low riders. You can get your tickets here for $30 or $35 at the door. The event starts at 9 a.m., Belmont Shore Business Association, 200 Nieto Ave., Long Beach.
Fall Festival (festival): Come welcome fall with free burgers, line dancing, a mechanical bull, giveaways and more. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., USC Caruso Catholic Center, 3207 University Ave, Los Angeles.
