A Pacoima man is facing multiple life prison terms for stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s mother, 11-month-old sister and aunt at their Panorama City home and then leading police on a chase that ended with a four-hour standoff in Glendale, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Jorge Gomez, 22, attacked his ex-girlfriend’s mother, who was stabbed seven times, and 11-month-old sister, who suffered four stab wounds, on Dec. 18, 2016. He also lunged toward his ex-girlfriend’s 3-year-old sister, who was shielded from injury by an aunt, who suffered six stab wounds and facial fractures, according to Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey. His 21-year-old former girlfriend was not at the home at the time.
Gomez then fled from the house, led police on a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a crash in Glendale and then held police at bay for about four hours before being arrested, according to the prosecutor.
Gomez was convicted late Wednesday of four felony counts each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon involving a knife, and one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly and dissuading a witness by force or threat, along with a misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage.
Jurors also found true allegations that Gomez personally used a knife in the attacks and that he inflicted great bodily injury.
He is due back in a San Fernando courtroom Nov. 28 for sentencing.
